Great Place to Work® Institute Canada Ranks Nycomed as top pharmaceutical employer
OAKVILLE, ON – April 6, 2009 – For the second year in a row, pharmaceutical company Nycomed Canada Inc. ranks as one of the ‘Best Workplaces in Canada’, an annual list published by the Great Place to Work® Institute Canada.
The list profiles 75 companies in Canada that have been deemed a best workplace through detailed employee surveys, as well as an audit of corporate culture.
“Nycomed’s employees are our most valuable asset and their consistent, positive feedback means that the company continues to be a leading employer in Canada,” says John Suk, CEO Nycomed Canada. “By retaining and attracting top-notch people with our positive work environment, we provide a strong foundation for achieving our business goal of winning our customers’ and partners’ confidence.
There are multiple factors that make Nycomed a great place to work. For instance, the company fosters a casual environment that is highly collaborative and people-focused. When it comes to employees’ performance, the standards are set high, but it is also important to consider how those results are achieved. For example, there is a commitment to work-life balance and ‘flex time’, and a rewards and recognition program allows colleagues to recognize their peers.
How ‘Best Workplace’ Rankings are Achieved
This year, the judges for the Best Workplaces in Canada assessed a total of 30,000 employees from a variety of Canadian businesses ranging in size from 54 to 55,000 employees.
Two-thirds of a company’s total score comes from employee responses to the ‘Trust Index’ survey (comprised of 57 scaled and two open-ended questions). The questions centre on the critical characteristics of credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. The remaining third of the score comes from the evaluation of the culture audit submitted by each company.
“Nycomed’s values are courage, trust, empathy and motivation which are vital in directing how we conduct ourselves both within the organization and in our business activities with others,” says Mr. Suk. “The Best Workplaces ranking strongly indicates that we are fulfilling and living up to these values.”
The winners of the 2009 Best Workplaces in Canada were announced in a special national report published in The Globe & Mail.
