ALTANA Pharma serves up donation to tsunami relief

Joins forces with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild houses in stricken countries

Oakville, ON, August 31, 2005 – What do hamburgers, hotdogs and a huge pile of bricks have in common?   A relief effort called BBQ for Bricks held today at ALTANA Pharma in support of Habitat for Humanity's tsunami relief program.

ALTANA serves up burgers and dogs to more than 70 ALTANA employees, plus a $5,000 donation to help support the five million people left homeless by the tsunami last December 26th.

BBQ for Bricks is a fundraising initiative started by Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn and Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale.  The program encourages local Oakville residents to sponsor a summer barbeque to generate proceeds for Habitat for Humanity.

It's great to be part of a community that has such a large and generous heart," says Suk.  "BBQ for Bricks is a terrific initiative to get all of Oakville behind the tsunami relief effort."

It takes just one thousand dollars for Habitat for Humanity to build a house.  Every dollar raised from the BBQ for Bricks program goes directly to the tsunami building efforts.

"Our goal is to help build new homes as part of an international effort to move 35,000 families out of overcrowded and disease-ridden camps and shelters," says MPP Kevin Flynn. "We designed BBQ for Bricks to put some cheer into the tsunami fundraising efforts."

Mayor Mulvale hopes that the Oakville community continues to get involved in the program.

"Our citizens have been so generous in their time and money.  By working together we have raised enough to build 24 houses so far," says the Mayor.
